During Operation “Campo Seguro 2023” which ended the 31 December the GNR seized in the district of Beja 39.719 kilograms of olive penthouse. In two thefts in January, more was recovered 1.413 pounds.
Soldiers from the Moura Territorial Detachment of the GNR detained 9 people, six men and three women, between 20 and 42 year old, for olive theft in the municipality of Moura, having been seized 733 kilos of that fruit.
The Beja Territorial Command revealed in a statement that the nine suspects were arrested on Saturday, day 13 January, after a complaint has been received, the military managed to locate and intercept the suspects, when “they harvested olives, without the consent of the olive grove owner”.
The nine people were, that is why, detained in flagrante delicto and the facts were communicated to the Judicial Court of Moura, the GNR having seized, beyond the 733 kilos of olives, various material related to the harvest. The operation was reinforced by soldiers from the Emergency Protection and Relief Unit (UEPS).
The last seizure occurred last day 11 January, when the military from the Vidigueira Territorial Post detained eight men and three women, aged between 16 and 43 year old, of olive theft. In the course of the action, it was possible to learn the following material: 680 kilos of olives, three passenger vehicles and various harvest-related material. The suspects were arrested and the facts were reported to the Cuban Judicial Court.
It should be remembered that in the balance sheet of Operation Campo Seguro 2023 a National Republican Guard, revealed that since the day 26 of June and until the day 31 December 2023, had recovered in the district of Beja 39.719 kilograms of olive penthouse. During the operation, the GNR detained 122 people and identifying others 299 mostly for crimes of theft on farms, the overwhelming majority in the district of Beja.
