Herdade da Contenda won the National Landscape Award 2020. This is an honorary distinction created in 2012, in the framework of the implementation of the European Landscape Convention.
The initiative promoted by the General Directorate of the Territory, intends to reward the merit of those, in Portugal, contributes to more sustainable territorial development and promotes awareness of the importance of landscape in quality of life. The winning entry is selected to represent Portugal in the competition for the Council of Europe Landscape Award.
The municipal company Herdade da Contenda participated with the application “A reference landscape in Raia - A Herdade da Contendaâ€. It is a reference project for sustainable management of land use, inspiring the importance of the landscape as a resource and demonstrating how human interaction with natural systems can build it, destroy and rebuild.
At Herdade da Contenda, the transformations that reflect history in that Raiana situation, result from an ancestral link between the earth and humans, where it is difficult to distinguish where one begins and the other ends. IT IS, after all, the Alentejo and Mediterranean landscape, in a narrative of resilience and resurgence, conserving your character.
The application was prepared by Herdade da Contenda, Municipal Company and had the support of landscape architect Nuno Lecoq, that developed in 2014 the doctoral thesis “A Herdade da Contenda. A Unique Landscape as a Reference Landscape â€.
The National Landscape Award 2020 it will be delivered, next Wednesday, day 09, to Ãlvaro Azedo, Mayor de Moura, by the hand of the Minister for the Environment, João Matos Fernandes, during the 3rd Conference of the National Architecture and Landscape Policy.
