The Government decided to grant point tolerance on days 23 and 30 of December to workers who exercise public functions in the State, according to a dispatch already signed by the Prime Minister, António Costa.
“Point tolerance is granted to civil servants who perform public functions in direct State administration services, whether central or deconcentrated, and in public institutes in the coming days 23 and 30 December 2022”, referred to in the order.
In this order, the Prime Minister justifies the point tolerances by the fact that it is “It is traditional for many people to travel outside their places of residence during the Christmas and New Year period in order to hold family gatherings”.
António Costa later mentions “the practice that has been followed over the years” and “the existing tradition of granting point tolerance, at this time, in non-essential public services”.

“Without prejudice to the continuity and quality of the service to be provided, the top managers of the services and bodies referred to in the previous paragraph must promote the equivalent exemption from the duty of attendance for their respective workers, date to be set in due course”, adds.
