Seven projects carried out by students from Odemira awarded in the 29th Contest for Young Scientists.
Once again the Dr. Secondary School. Manuel Candeias Gonçalves, of the Group of Schools of Odemira, won several awards at the 15th Mostra Nacional de Ciência, within the scope of the 29th National Contest of Young Scientists, which took place on 23 and 24 November.
The Ciência Viva club received two honorable mentions, two awards and two international participations, in a total of seven projects carried out by students from Odemira within the scope of the Ciência Viva Club.
The students Catarina Santos, Joana Cardoso and Mariana Duarte won 4th prize and participation in the International Wildlife Research Week, in Switzerland, with the project “Potential of Lemna minor and Callitriche stagnalis for the removal of fosfomycin from wastewaterâ€.
The Porto Editora Prize was awarded to the project “Influence of vegetation in drainage ditches on the purification of agricultural effluentsâ€, performed by Carolina Serralha, Pedro Santos and Ricardo Alves.
The Carolina Coelho students, Maria Nobre and Mariana Filipa received an Honorable Mention and the prize for participation in the Luxembourg International Science Fair, with the project “Impact of communication on perceptions of menstruation in women of different ages and culturesâ€.
An Honorable Mention was also given to the project “Effects of picking limpets on rocky beaches in Alentejoâ€, of students Lena Beunk, Manuel Almeida and Sofia Matias.
The 15th National Science Exhibition and the 29th National Contest for Young Scientists took place in the days 23 and 24 November, this year again in virtual format, in an initiative of the Youth Foundation, in co-organization with Ciência Viva.
In this great event dedicated to science, participated 52 projects originating in different areas of study (Bioeconomia, biology, environmental sciences, Social Sciences, Economy, Engineering, Physics, Informatics and Computer Science, Mathematics and Chemistry), performed by more than 124 young scientists, through the guidance of 37 teachers and that are the result of the selection made by the Jury of the 29th National Competition for Young Scientists.
The Municipality of Odemira congratulates the young scientists of Odemira for the success achieved and the Secondary School Dr. Manuel Candeias Gonçalves for the work developed by Clube Ciência Viva, coordinated by professor Paula Canha.
