Odemira: Defendant sentenced to 1 year and 10 months of effective imprisonment for domestic violence.

A Collective of Judges of the Court of Beja, despite the limited evidence produced at trial, on Friday sentenced a defendant to 1 year and 10 months of effective imprisonment, for a crime of domestic violence perpetrated against his ex-wife and compensation for 1500 euros.

After being released, the individual must comply with the additional penalties prohibiting contact with the victim, with remote control, and use and carrying of weapons.

The man arrived in court accused of the crimes of domestic violence and threats and stalking, all aggravated, but the false statements of a witness, from whom a certificate for criminal proceedings is obtained, and two others refused to give statements because they were relatives of the accused, are the basis of the short sentence.

Jose Silvestre, in custody, from last day 23 June, in Prison Beja, where next Thursday will meet 56 year old, heard the president of the Collective of Judges say that the maintenance of the coercive measure because “there is a danger of carrying out the death threats made to the victim. We cannot forget the countless homicide crimes resulting from domestic violence crimes.”, finished.

Born in the parish of RelĂquias, county of Odemira, divorced since June 2016, the defendant did not accept the separation and began to persecute the victim, after the suspension of a prison sentence of 2 year old 6 months to which he was sentenced in April 2019, for another crime of domestic violence committed against the victim.

The defendant even used one of his children as a “courier” for the message that he was killing his mother and her boyfriend, led the judge to tell the convict that the perspective he has of his ex-wife “is your thing”, concluded.
