The next day 5 of September, José Saramago de Odemira Municipal Library celebrates twenty-three years serving the population and culture in the municipality of Odemira.
To mark the date, the Municipal Library will offer the entire population a diverse cultural program with various activities for all age groups, in an initiative that falls within the scope of “September, cultural immersion”.
On this birthday, The program starts with 14.30 hours, with the Puppet Theater “A journey through the World of La Fontaine”, a journey with the most fun characters from Jean de La Fontaine's fables for children from ages 5 year old.
As with all birthday parties, Also at the José Saramago Municipal Library, congratulations will be sung and the candles will be blown out. The Municipal Library invites the entire community to come together to taste a slice of birthday cake from 16.00 hours.
The party continues through 18.00 hours, with the opening of the exhibition “Figure Out – Characters of Literature”, by Ana Baleia. The creative project developed by the artist features textile sculptures that represent figures taken from the pages of books, made by reusing material collected over the years and stored in his studio.

The José Saramago Municipal Library opened its doors in September 2000 and has played a fundamental role in the dissemination of information and culture in Odemira, ensuring access to the same. Its presence in the community has also been marked by a proximity strategy and the dynamism of the initiatives it promotes around books and reading., among other forms of culture and art, in collaboration with various entities.
