In 2021 the municipality of Odemira has 12 Blue Flag beaches, the symbol of quality and excellence, assigned by ABAE - Association of European Blue Flag.
The beaches of Malhao Norte, On Malhão, Franchise, Lighthouse, Furnas Rio, Furnas Sea, Almograve Norte, Almograve Sul, Zambujeira do Mar, Alteirinhos and Carvalhal and the river beach of Santa Clara will fly the Blue Flag.
The Official Ceremony of the first Blue Flag in inland waters will be held at the River Beach of Albufeira de Santa Clara, on 15 June, by 11.30 hours, date that also marks the official beginning of the bathing season in the municipality of Odemira.
The Blue Flag Program National Jury promotes, annually, an Official Ceremony for the raising of the 1st Blue Flag electing a region and a promoter that stand out for their performance in sustainable management over the several years of candidacy for the award and thus recognizes the work developed by the Municipality of Odemira in improving conditions and environmental management of your beaches.
The 12 applications submitted by the municipality for the Blue Flag, which proves the quality of Odemirense beaches and the commitment of the Municipality in their qualification.
In 2021, Quercus – National Association for the Conservation of Nature awarded the Gold Quality Award to seven beaches in Odemira: Franchise, Lighthouse, Furnas, Almograve, Alteirinhos, Carvalhal and Santa Clara. The county has five accessible beaches (Franchise, Furnas Rio, Furnas Sea, Zambujeira do Mar and Carvalhal), two naturist beaches (in North and South Alteirinhos) and a beach for dog use (where you can take your four-legged friends).
