The body of a man was found on Thursday at the foot of a cliff south of Porto das Barcas, in Zambujeira do Mar, county of Odemira.
According to the online edition of the Journal News (JN), the commander of the Maritime Police and captain of the Port of Sines, Rui Filipe, the alert was transmitted by the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center, cerca the 19 hours yesterday, after the body was spotted by a citizen walking around.
“We were told that a citizen, on a walk along the cliff, south of Porto das Barcas, would have spotted an inanimate body. Immediately, the picket of the Maritime Police moved to that area and, in collaboration with GNR, took care of the occurrence”, He explained, advance not having received “no alert, on the same day or on previous days, for the disappearance of someone”.
Authorities found that it was the body of a man, “about 60 year old”, not having been able to determine “the identity of the victim for not having documents in his possession”. The body “showed no signs of violence, but it looked like it had been there for a day or two”, He added the charge, stating that “was in a relatively visible area because it is a trail normally used by walkers”.
“The man was equipped with apparently sporty clothes so we can, possibly, assume that you would be taking a walk in that area and that you would have felt bad”, reported.
According to the National Maritime Authority, in a statement, the death was declared on the spot by the delegate of health of Sines, it is not possible to identify the victim's identity or determine the causes of death.
The body was removed from the site with the support of the Odemira Volunteer Firefighters and subsequently transported by the Colos Red Cross to the Institute of Forensic Medicine of the Beja Hospital.
The case was handed over to the Judicial Police of Portimão.
