Odemira: Excessive alcohol intake, behind murder of Nepalese agricultural worker.


Excessive alcohol intake, led to a violent argument, between two Nepalese farm workers, which would end with the stabbing of one of them, who ended up dying nine days later, victim of serious chest injuries.

The case occurred on the day 14 November last year, in a room shared by several citizens of that Asian country, not place of Arrifoias, Boavista locality of Pines, county of Odemira, when Lokandra Gurung, of 31 year old, used a knife with a blade 17 centimeters and delivered several blows to the chest, neck and arms, hitting vital organs of his compatriot Dhan Bahadur Chhetri.

After the attack, the defendant was thrown out of the house by the other occupants, and wielding the knife he tried to enter the house again, threatening other workers with death.

Dhan Bahadur Chhetri was transported to the Local Health Unit of Litoral Alentejo, in Santiago do Cacém, where he would undergo surgical intervention, never abandoning Intensive Care, until the day 23 November, date he died.

According to the prosecutor's order (MP) Odemira, that JN had access to, “the victim’s death was due to multiorgan failure as a complication of traumatic thoracic and abdominal injuries”, justified the Prosecutor responsible for the investigation.

After the attack, the accused fled the scene., but was arrested a few hours later, having been present at the first interrogation at the Odemira Court on the day 15 November 2023, it was applied coercion measure of remand, which he fulfills at the Silves Prison Establishment.

Lokandra Gurung, trial opens today at the Court of Beja, before a panel of Judges, risking a prison sentence of 25 year old.
