Odemira: One of the firefighters has already been discharged, two remain hospitalized.


One of the Odemira firefighters seriously injured when a firefighting vehicle crashed, on Wednesday, was discharged from hospital, while two others remain hospitalized, said this Saturday the corporation commander. Dinis Conceição's funeral is tomorrow and the President of the Republic will be present.

Contacted by Lusa agency, the commander of the Fire Odemira Volunteers, no Beja district, Luis Oliveira, indicated that one of the two operatives who were admitted to the hospital in Portimão, Faro district, was “discharged on Friday”.

According to the responsible, “one firefighter remains hospitalized today” at Portimão Hospital and the other who was transported to Santa Maria Hospital, in Lisbon.

The loss of the fire fighting vehicle from this Alentejo corporation occurred on Wednesday night, on the municipal road that connects Boavista dos Pinheiros to Saboia, in Odemira, causing five firefighters injuries, between 37 and 43 year old, of which four serious and one light.

The slightly injured man was soon discharged from Beja hospital, On thursday, but one of the operatives was seriously injured, Dinis Conceição, of 38 year old, who had been helitransported to Hospital São José, in Lisbon, ended up dying on Friday.

Religious ceremonies will begin on Sunday, to 13.30 hours, in that space, followed by the funeral procession to the Boavista dos Pinheiros cemetery, in the same Alentejo municipality.

The commander told Lusa today that he had received confirmation that the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, and some elements of the Government go to the barracks, no Sunday, to participate in the funeral ceremonies.

According to the commander, “there have never been any safety complaints” regarding this vehicle, but the vehicle would be collected “on Monday for minor technical rectifications”, that did not imply “its safety”.
