The event, organized by the Municipality of Ourique, aims to publicize and promote Alentejo singing, value cultural identity and encourage coexistence, the sharing and exchange of experiences between the public and singers.
The celebration takes place next Sunday, 26 November, at Cineteatro Sousa Telles, in Ourique.
The voice is the beginning and the end, is the absolute instrument of Alentejo singing. It is a cultural heritage passed from parents to children. In the heart of Baixo Alentejo, singing is a feeling passed on from childhood, at home, not coffee, in the tavern or when you go to the fields to work from sunrise to sunset. The singers (kids and adults) from the municipality of Ourique are heirs of this great tradition.
The celebrations of the ninth anniversary of the classification of Cante Alentejano as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO begin, at 4pm this Sunday, at Cineteatro Sousa Telles, with the performance of several choral groups from the municipality of Ourique and the special participation of professor VÃtor Encarnação, which will address the theme of Alentejo singing as cultural heritage.
The Municipality of Ourique has maintained a strong commitment to valuing identity brands that contribute to individual and community development. In this line of thought, Ourique by valuing the marks of its identity, has integrated several expressions, traditions and events that are local reference, regional and national. The Alentejo song is a unique expression of the feeling and expression of the people of Alentejo., recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, that integrates the dynamics of the educational community.
Based on this premise, the municipality in a project led by professor José Diogo Bento, bet in the last three years, in the introduction in a school context of Cante Alentejano Workshops, integrated in the Municipal Educational Project, whose objective is to value traditional popular culture and encourage younger people to continue singing Alentejo, in a playful and pedagogical approach, underlining the importance of valuing education through art.
