Ovibeja: 35Edition promotes olive oil route as a passport to knowledge.


A "trip" the Olive Oil Route, Alentejo, is the proposal of the Organizing Committee of Ovibeja to publicize the current reality in the region to national and international journalists, with particular emphasis on the sidelines of the 8th International Competition of Extra Virgin Olive Oil - CA Award Ovibeja.

The competition and selection of the best olive oils in the world, of from over 150 submitted to the competition, will happen in the days 12 and 13 April, in Beja, for about 40 judges from 12 countries. The categories in the competition are Fruity Mature, Fruity Green Light, Fruity Green Medium and Intense Fruity.

On 13, guests can check journalists, in loco, the rigor of the standards observed by the only Portuguese international tender procedure, ranked 1st in the world. They will also participate in oil proof and meet a wine press and olive cultivation activity in the region.

Stimulate the commitment to maximum quality for the professional approach to foreign markets is one of the objectives of the Olive Ovibeja Contest which this year takes place under the sign of the increased production of oil that there are records in Portugal. According the data already compiled by the Oil Information System (SIAZ), the domestic production of oil reached, in campaign 2017-2018, as 125 thousand tons. Since the Alentejo is, by far, the largest producer of olive oil region, representing 78 percent of national production, give this region a production of about 97.500 tons of oil.

The good production of oil in this campaign is due to the fact that it is a year of harvest, the entry into production of new olive grove areas, mainly non Alentejo, and the yield of olive oil in. According to data from the National Statistics Institute (INE), the average quality of olive oil produced this year was also quite high.

The quality, associated with competitiveness and the international marketing of olive oil as a stimulus to the culture of excellence of national oil will be the motto of the International Symposium oil that will hold ACOS, along with Olivum, during the Ovibeja, a 28 April.

To provide further information and clarification to the public, an example of which is the hallmark of Ovibeja, the Symposium, which runs throughout the day, It will look into further on the sustainability of olive groves and the environment. Guest speakers, Portuguese and Spanish, are researchers and experts with multidisciplinary approaches on the issues in focus.

At the end of this journey takes place, further on 28 April, the awards to the winners of the 8th International Competition of Extra Virgin Olive Oil - CA Award Ovibeja. The competition is organized by ACOS, in collaboration with the House of olive oil and the exclusive sponsorship of the Agricultural Credit.
