The João Lobo Antunes Institute of Molecular Medicine (iMM) advance, Tuesday, with the largest national serological study done to date to assess the population's immunity to the SARS-CoV-2 virus, six months after the start of the pandemic and at a time when a critical phase is anticipated.
They will be tested for free 12 thousand volunteers from 102 continent municipalities and islands to make these serological tests. The objective is to assess the prevalence of covid-19 infection and consequently the population's immunity to the virus at a “review” post-holiday and beginning of the new school year.
The sample of “Covid-19 National Serological Panel” was defined by specialists from Pordata and the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon to be representative of the population. There are vacancies for 2200 children and youth (minor 18 year old), 5500 people among 18 and 54 years and 4300 with 55 years or more. The number is limited by what “interested parties should register as soon as possible”, warns Bruno Silva Santos, project coordinator and iMM deputy director.
Registrations can be made from today, through the website “National Serological Panel Covid-19” of the website or in one of 314 Germano de Sousa harvest stations, partner company of this project that is fully financed by Sociedade Francisco Manuel dos Santos and Jerónimo Martins Group.
