Mother Church of Castro Verde, renamed the Royal Basilica and reclassified as a “monument of national interest”.
The government, through the Council of Ministers, approved the decree that reclassifies the Mother Church of Castro Verde as a “monument of national interest”.
The same document renames the classification to “Royal Basilica of Castro Verde”, also known as Nossa Senhora da Conceição Church, matrix of Castro Verde”, in the territory of the Diocese of Beja.
“It is a church erected by the Order of Santiago, referenced since 1510, although the current construction dates back to the reign of D. Sebastião, who had a temple built in its place that worthily remembered the 'memorable victory' of D..
