PayPal blocked the account of a Portuguese passenger who was trying to buy train tickets between Cuba station, Alentejo, and Porto/Campanhã. The payment company's system confused the Alentejo village with the island of Cuba.
The unusual incident happened on the day 17 of September, when a CP passenger tried to purchase train tickets from Cuba to Campanhã, no Porto, using your PayPal account. After making the purchase, Maria, fictitious name, saw your account blocked and ticket purchases suspended, advances the ECO newspaper.
“We need some information from you to verify your account details or some of your recent transactions”, This was the message that the user received in her payment platform account.
The company's headquarters are in the USA, who implemented a boycott of the island of Cuba decades ago, and, that is why, there is an internal mechanism to ensure that sanctions imposed on the Cuban regime are effectively applied.
In this context, PayPal asked Maria to clarify “the reference to Cuba” e a “purpose of payment” to unlock the account.
The passenger already explained to the company that she was buying a ticket from Cuba to Alentejo, that CP is a train company and that it was just buying train tickets to Porto.
The story was shared by Maria on the social network, old Twitter, and received the attention of several users, including PCP deputy Duarte Alves, who demonstrated his displeasure with what happened and defended the end of the North American blockade of the Havana regime.
After explanation, the user received a message indicating that the account had been “partially restoredâ€, noting that “everything went back to normal”.
