According to the News Journal (JN), the government decided to put a stone on the problem of illegal subsidies that presidents of polytechnic institutes walked receiving for at least nine years, contrary to previous decisions of the courts and abdicating the refund of any monies.
JN, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education did not quantify the amount unduly paid to the chairmen of 15 polytechnics to 2012, but, media to 750 Euro per month, reaches to a value greater than 1,2 million.
The matter was settled by the Government through the decree of the Minister, Manuel Heitor, and Prime Minister, António Costa, approved in mid-August and published in “Gazette” a 21 October (read here: Decree-she 65/2016).
