The historical leaders of the autonomous regions of the Azores and Madeira, João Bosco Mota Amaral and Alberto João Jardim, They will be honored at the event marking the 44 anniversary of the founding of PSD.
In the first regional legislative elections held in Portugal, in June 1976, PSD achieved historic victories at the hands of Mota Amaral and Alberto João Jardim, protagonists of social democracy's claim in the two autonomous regions and the development of the Azores and Madeira in the many years he led the regional governments.
With regional elections underway, Madeira, in 2019 and, Azores, in 2020, PSD looks to its role as a defining Party of regional autonomies, reaffirming its role in deepening the same with Cimeiro order to serve the Azores and Madeira populations.
Beja was chosen to receive the anniversary celebrations. That country town embodies some of the biggest challenges in this Portugal, namely the necessary reform of decentralization.
The PSD will draw attention to this agenda, while still recalls a city with historical weight in these 44 anniversary party. The solemn session of the celebrations, a 12 May, will take place at the Municipal Theater Pax Julia, where, in April 1975, then one of the PPD rally was interrupted by radical forces. The anniversary program will also include visits and meetings district of Beja. The speakers will be honored, João Bosco Mota Amaral and Alberto João Jardim; Francisco Pinto Balsemão, founder and militant paragraph 1; and the president of the National Policy Committee, Rui Rio.
