The Center for the Valorization of Viola Campaniça and Improvisation Singing in São Martinho das Amoreiras will be inaugurated on the day 15 June, by 17.30 hours.
The ceremony will be attended by the Mayor of Odemira, Helder Warrior, and the President of the Parish Council of São Martinho das Amoreiras, Nuno Duarte, as well as the players, singers, Masters, Students and teachers, who have perpetuated this intangible heritage of the region.
The new equipment is a commitment by the Municipality of Odemira to promote and enhance local culture, contributing to the economic and social development of the region, an investment of about 288 thousand euros, with financing through Alentejo 2020. The space is of decisive importance in the municipal strategy of maintaining and enhancing intangible heritage, being crucial and decisive in local cultural identity and strengthening the sense of community.
With the aim of covering the teaching and research aspects, The CVVCCI headquarters are intended to be a cultural space at the service of the community, which includes an exhibition space, the recreation of a typical tavern and patio that will allow for outdoor activities, alongside a regular training program for children and adults, which has been developed in schools in the interior of the municipality and in various spaces in the village of São Martinho das Amoreiras.
The Viola Campaniça and Cante de Improviso Valorization Center is the result of a consortium between the Municipality of Odemira, Parish Council of São Martinho das Amoreiras, Casa do Povo de São Martinho das Amoreiras and Association for the Development of Amoreiras-Gare, entities join forces to study, training and dissemination of instrumental and vocal manifestations associated with Viola Campaniça, to Sing Improvisation and Popular Poetry, striking forms of cultural expression in the identity of the area.
The initiative is part of the Arts and Crafts Forum program 2024: Transmit the Do, which takes place in the municipality of Odemira until the end of June, and which places artisanal know-how at the center of debate and creation.
