Dry: There 43 counties in the most critical situation. none from Alentejo.

The Government will recommend the tariff increase for large water consumers in 43 counties. None belong to Alentejo.

In response to the drought situation in Portugal, the Minister of Environment and Climate Action, announced this Wednesday that it will recommend a tariff increase for large domestic water users (above 15 cubic meters per month) during the period of greatest severity of the drought and only in the 43 municipalities that are experiencing a more critical situation.

These municipalities are those “whose reservation does not allow for one year of consumption and which are systems that have to be filled several times a year”, He explained.

in these counties, “non-essential uses of water in the network” will be temporarily suspended, such as washing the streets or watering green spaces, and a “sanctions regime to penalize misuse of water” will be applied.. The installation of consumption-reducing taps for public water use will also be financed., like schools, hospitals or sports venues, to achieve “immediate savings”.

That 61 mainland Portugal's reservoirs, 37 are under surveillance (last month were 31) and ten are in critical condition, where the stored volume is less than 20%. The latter – like de Arcossó, Vale Madeira, Monte da Rocha, Campilhas and Bravura – require “closer monitoring”.
