Serpa: Location of missing man along the Guadiana River.


The Territorial Command Beja, through its various valences, with reinforcement from the military from the Emergency Protection and Relief Unit (UEPS), yesterday, day 11 of September, located alive, a man of 87 year old, who was missing, in the municipality of Serpa.

Following a report reporting the disappearance of a man, on 9 of September, who suffered from dementia and heart problems requiring medication, in the town of Serpa, the Guard military immediately carried out the necessary police measures to locate him, including team activation Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS), commonly known as drones or unmanned aircraft, kinesthetic binomials and an aerial means of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC).

After the missing person's vehicle was located, all ground resources were mobilized close to this location, together with the UAS team, which used three unmanned aircraft.

Following search and rescue operations and after the search was extended during the night, using thermal cameras, taking as reference the location of the vehicle, the elderly man was found alive, at 8:55 am today, day 11 of September, using cameras from the UAS team's unmanned aircraft, of the Emergency Technical Support Cell (CSTE) da UEPS, about what 600 meters of the vehicle, near the Guadiana River, in Beja county.

The elderly man was immediately transported to Beja Hospital, for observation and medical assistance.

This action included the reinforcement of military personnel from the kinesthetic teams of the Intervention Detachments (OF) Beja and Évora, of Protection and Relief Intervention Posts (PIPS) of the Protection and Relief Intervention Company (CIPS) n.º 18 da UEPS, and also had the support of ANEPC.

The Republican National Guard highlights the success of this mission, which made it possible to safeguard a human life, highlighting the relevance of using different means and skills, particularly with emphasis on unmanned aircraft.
