Financial desperation will have taken a Pakistani citizen, of 30 year old, agricultural worker on a property in the municipality of Serpa, trying to assault the dependency of Caixa Geral de DepĂłsitos (CGD) of this Alentejo city.
The individual arrived at the CGD premises, located at Praça da República, next to the Town Hall building near the 05,00 hours transporting a motorbike.
He entered the space as if he were going to withdraw money from the ATM, after having broken the glass of access to the customer counter, what made the alarm go off. A GNR patrol quickly approached the scene and detained the individual who offered no resistance.
The defendant who is being held at the GNR Serpa Post, should have been present yesterday at the Tribunal de Serpa for first interrogation, but the lack of an interpreter meant that due diligence was postponed until Wednesday morning.
The individual works close to Vila Nova de São Bento and those who know him speak of “a hard-working and peaceful person”, showing “amazement” by what happened, claiming that only economic problems “could lead to a similar situation”.
The entrance door of the dependency was covered with papers and a notice was posted that the agency was closed, not explaining the reason. It was closed during the morning until the PJ concluded its investigations.
