Serpa: Late payments at Santa Casa da Misericórdia.

The Regional Directorate of Alentejo of the Portuguese Nurses Union (SEP) reveals that the situation includes the Hospital de Serpa, leaving the question: Santa Casa will be able to continue to exist?

The SEP issued a statement informing that it became aware of the existence, once again, of arrears at the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Serpa (SCMS), The SEP denounces in a statement the existence of arrears in the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Serpa.

It is not the first time that there are salaries in arrears since the management of the Hospital passed to SCMS. The last time was in February of this year, and now again in april.

This situation is unacceptable because nurses (and other workers) who fulfill their work obligations are entitled to receive their salary within the legal term.

The Regional Health Administration of Alentejo, the Local Health Unit of the Lower Alentejo (ULSBA) and the Ministry of Health itself cannot ignore what is happening at SCMS, since they ceded the “operation” of Hospital de Serpa to SCMS.

The SEP considers that SCMS is no longer able to continue managing Serpa Hospital, and that he should return to the management of the ULSBA!

Serpa Hospital - Controversial Management

In the middle of the current month of April, the Beja District of the PSD defended the management under the aegis of Santa Casa da Misericórdia and accused CDU and municipality of being “the big problem”. For its part, the City Council argues that the unit “should re-integrate the National Health Service”.

Days later, the PCP defended the reversal of the process started in 2014, returning the São Paulo hospital to the management of the Ministry of Health, having its Parliamentary Group delivered a Bill to the Assembly of the Republic.
