Green Flag: Three local authorities in the district are “Family Responsible”.
Ourique, Mértola and Almodôvar are the three municipalities in the district that are among the 110 which are recognized by the Observatory of Family Responsible Authorities (OAFR) like Portuguese municipalities that win the green flag of “Autarquia + Family Responsible".

A couple of 25 year old, resident GarvĂŁo, municipality of Ourique, was sentenced, by a Collective of Judges of the Court of Beja, in a single sentence of effective imprisonment of 2 years and 6 months, for crimes of child sexual abuse and pornography of minors.
