In the last few weeks DNS.pt registered a “very significant growth” of the number of .pt domain registrations, with values around 49% from last year. The trend is a response to COVID-19 and the transition from more business to online.

last year .pt was already one of the top domains in a country that grew the most in Europe. In 2019 a new record was reached with 121.359 registered domains. Now, and with more companies and businesses moving to the internet to circumvent the effects of the confinement that results from the COVID-19 pandemic, that acceleration is feeling more intense.
The bar is now in more than 1.250.000 domains registered in the Portuguese top-level domain.
The sale of computers portable, ‘tablets’, ‘desktops’ and printers also skyrocketed.
Between 13 and 19 April, there was an increase of 48% in the sale of technological goods, compared to the same week 2019, reveal data from GFK Portugal.
The company reports increases in sales of 481% of multifunction printers, of 351% of portable computers, of 137% two ‘tablets’ and 118% dos ‘desktops’.
The reason for this increase, according to the market research firm, is social isolation because of covid-19 disease, distance learning and teleworking.
Messenger won a feature that allows video calls with up to 50 participants, Messenger Rooms. The goal is to make Facebookn's messaging app a rival to proposals like Zoom.
According to Time, Messenger Rooms does not require a Facebook account and will be a free service with no time limit. "All the products [already available] are mainly focused on companies and we thought there was the ability to do something in the consumer space. [O Messenger Rooms] was made to be more casual. Facebook's plan is that, possibly, users can join conversations in Messenger Rooms from WhatsApp and Instagram. Messenger Rooms will be phased out to various markets over time.
Turn, Google has announced that it will make available, over the next few weeks, the Google Meet video conferencing platform for free. The service, so far, was only available to business customers and schools.
In a statement, technological says that Meet “was designed, built and works to be safe on a large scale”, noting that since January there has been a daily peak in the use of the platform at “grow up 30 times”.
“This month it is receiving three billion minutes of video conferencing and adding three million users every day”, added Google.
“Today, we're making Google Meet – our top video conferencing product – free for everyone and with its availability happening over the next few weeks”, the company said.
The start of expansion of the platform to all is planned “a partir de 4 May” and it will be gradual.
Me about WhatsApp revealed that the spread of “highly forwarded” messages has been reduced by 70%, which means that the measures implemented by the company are having an effect.
In the beginning of the month, WhatsApp decided to allow app users to share messages with one user or group at a time. Previously it was possible to share with up to five people / groups. The new measure was intended to increase effectiveness in combating misinformation and false news.
