New or not, scientists calculated the speed at which our brain thinks and concluded that this is… slow!

The new estimate is the speed at which our brain processes information in 10 bits per second. The study also revealed that the way it does this is in series and not in parallel., in other words, our brain processes a flow of information, one piece of data at a time, and is not able to work with multiple streams at the same time.

This slow flow is surprising if we consider that our nervous system gathers information about what is happening around us at a speed of about 100 millions of times higher than the rate at which our brain processes this information. The paradox remains: what the brain is doing to filter all this information?
