Alentejo: Rattles are Intangible Heritage of UNESCO.


It is the second distinction that a Alentejo tradition gets in the space of just one year. After the sing now rattles were to be recognized as Intangible Heritage of UNESCO.

The application was presented this year to the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO) and accepted early on Tuesday.

The registration request resulted from a partnership between the Alentejo and Ribatejo Tourism, the Municipality of Viana do Alentejo and the Board of Parish of Alcáçovas.

This time, Alentejo receive the second distinction of Intangible Cultural Heritage in just one year.

According to the President of the Alentejo Tourism / Ribatejo, António Ceia da Silva, "Identity is a key value in the differentiation and certification of a tourist destination, right now the title won by Rattles manufacturing strengthens, two markets together, the uniqueness and diversity of an Alentejo that stands for excellence and uniqueness ".

To the Ambassador of Namibia in Portugal, Helena Paiva, "Portugal regogiza with the inscription Rattles manufacturing in Urgent Safeguarding List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO, particularly because this happened at the first meeting of the Committee in Africa, continent with which we share cultural and historical relations very close ".
