Manuel Rey Cordeiro, the pilot of 62 years since he died, no Sunday, in the crash of the Warbird Yak52s during the Beja Air Show air festival, “jumped out of the plane after the collision and tried to open the parachute, but given the low altitude the equipment did not open”, revealed today in an Information Note (IN) the Office for the Prevention and Investigation of Aircraft Accidents and Railway Accidents (GPIAAF).
As the Lidador News (LN) revealed yesterday, “Coco” as the Galician pilot was known, crashed its tail into the propeller of another plane from the same patrol, having in the descending phase of the aircraft crash, jumped from the device, which does not have automatic injection of the flight seats, with the body of the ill-fated pilot lying on top of the barbed wire fence of the military unit, being completely dismembered. The parachute opened only after the violent impact of the net.
According to GPIAAF “the pilot started the final sequence without maintaining separation from the group, having collided with another aircraft, which caused damage that led to the inevitable loss of control of the aircraft and the inverted position of the crash caused a violent collision with the ground with subsequent explosion”.
NI adds that “the pilot left the aircraft in flight, Given the low height, the equipment did not open, there was no slowdown, resulting in immediate death.”, justify GPIAAF inspectors.
Regarding the aircraft piloted by Portuguese Tiago Correia, of 37 year old, that escaped unharmed from the accident, the GPIAAF explains in the document that “he lost the propeller, the left landing gear and a section of the leading edge of the right semi-wing” after the impact “the pilot began a dive and ended up landing, despite the aircraft's inverted position, got out of it by his own means and without injuries, being taken to the hospital as a precaution.”, situation that LN revealed on Sunday.
The GPIAAF states that the investigation will detail three points: “the organizational factors and training procedures and exhibition team procedures, the operability and functioning of the aircraft in the pre-event and the human factors relating to the remaining crew of the exhibition team”.
Finally, the GPIAAF NI clarifies that “the investigation is independent and distinct from any judicial or administrative processes that aim to determine blame or attribute responsibility”, I concluded.
