Near 30 tons olive, ready to be taken to a winepress, were stolen last night from a truck that was parked next to a dock near Monte da Carocha, in Beja.
With the arrival of olive owners, the theft of the authors, in undetermined number, they fled on foot and abandoned a goods vehicle at the scene, that everything points to has also been stolen and several cell phones.
The crime took place between 18,00 e as 22,00 hours Thursday, when the truck loaded with olives was waiting for the arrival of another vehicle to transfer and then take the olives to an olive press.
When Lidador News (LN) one of those responsible for the injured company “as the truck that was going to take the olives to the mill was late, we went to dinner and in the meantime the theft took place. Whoever committed the crime was certainly controlling all our steps. When we arrived at the scene, we saw the vehicle and the individuals fled.. We immediately alerted the GNR who promptly attended the scene.. The stolen cargo was transported on several trips”, justified.
According to a source from the GNR Territorial Command of Beja, “the value of stolen olives is around 25 thousand euros, with the origin and owners of the vehicle and abandoned mobile phones, to be investigated. There were military personnel from the Territorial Posts of Beja and Cuba”, justified our source.
This is the biggest olive theft ever in Alentejo, which only had a similar precedent in 30 December 2016 when they were stolen 20 tons of olives that were packed in three tractor trailers, Vale Herdade D'Água, in Ferreira do Alentejo county. The GNR would recover the stolen olive (na photos).

Last Tuesday they were stolen 120 kilos of olives, three men and one woman were arrested, aged between 24 and 61 year old, and seized a BMW vehicle where the criminals were transported.
Last day 28 October, Five men and one woman were arrested., aged 20 and 50 years and seized 240 kilos of olives, two light commercial vehicles and a wooden stick, classified as a prohibited weapon.
The arrests were carried out by soldiers from the Territorial Post of Beja of the GNR and in any case the ten detainees were made defendants and the facts communicated to the Judicial Court of Beja.
