A fire destroyed this afternoon, three buses from Rodoviária do Alentejo (RA)-Operational Department (DOP) Beja, that were parked in a dirt park belonging to the City Council and where the District Court of Justice is to be built.
There are still no explanations for the origin of the flames, but everything points to the existence of arson. The warning was given about the 13,20 hours.
No injuries to register, nor damage to the nearest dwellings that are a hundred and a half meters from the fire site.
The three vehicles with about 30 year old, were already slaughtered by the staff of RA-DOP Beja, waiting for a month to be transported to the ResiAlentejo Environmental Park, to be dismantled and baled. The vehicles had no batteries and without any source of ignition it could cause a short circuit, so everything points to the existence of arson, situation that the authorities are investigating.
Two of the buses were completely destroyed by the flames and a third whose fire was already taking in the interior ended up not suffering such considerable damage. The fire broke out in the vehicle that was in the middle of the three that were together, there is a fourth one that was picked up by a company driver, having suffered no damage.
Pedro Barahona, commander of the Beja Fire Department, justified that “when we arrived two of the vehicles were already engulfed in fire. We tried to prevent it from spreading to the other and protect the one that was placed safe ”, concluded.
Manuel Barão, Head of Movement of the RA-DOP Beja told the Lidador News (LN) “They were vehicles that were slaughtered to the herd waiting to be taken to the landfill. They had no batteries, so the only explanation is the possibility of arson. Tal in one had happened in the company. Even so, it is a loss that will be around five thousand euros ”, finished.
They were, no local 15 Beja firefighters and a dozen PSP agents supported by 9 Car.
