Beja: Inmate turned up dead in a prison cell.

A man of 72 year old, was found lifeless this Saturday morning, in a cell in the Beja Prison (EPBeja) where he was serving a nine-year prison sentence, for a crime of aggravated murder in the attempted form.

It was found by prison guards at 08,00 hours, when they opened the cells for inmates to have breakfast. The death was confirmed by the physician of the Emergency and Resuscitation Medical Vehicle (VMER) Beja, agents from the PSP Criminal Investigation Squad were on site

The body was removed to the Medical-Legal Office of the Bejense hospital where it will be autopsied, the suicide thesis may be turned upside down, as there will be minor injuries that can change the course of the case.

The individual had been isolated in a cell for some time., which contradicts the indication of the General Directorate of Prison Services, when isolating prisoners with depression, was convicted in September of 2016 to nine years in prison for the attempted murder of a neighbor with two shotgun blasts, case that occurred in 29 October 2015, in the neighborhood of gravel pits, in Beja.

At EPBeja for over a decade there hasn't been a death inside that jail, which, although little spoken of, is one of the safest in Portugal.
