Gefrison Candé, of 28 year old, Football Club Albernoense player, passed away this Sunday afternoon during the game his team played in Mértola, against São Domingos Futebol Clube, relating to the 11th round of Series A of the District Championship of the 2nd division of the Beja Football Association.
The athlete fainted during the match, They were 15,10 minutes, being played 10 minutes of the first half, was still transported to Beja Hospital, place where he ended up dying. The match was immediately declared over.
The player (in the photo the third from the left in the bottom row) was immediately assisted by operatives from the Mértola Volunteer Fire Department (BVM), the INEM helicopter from Loulé was activated and landed in the middle of the field. Given his extremely serious health condition, Candé was transported in a BVM ambulance to Beja Hospital, accompanied by the helicopter doctor and nurse, but efforts to reverse the serious situation were unsuccessful.
Very shaken by the situation was Pedro Jonas, president of Football Club Albernoense, that confirmed to Lidador Notícias (LN) player's death. “It’s an unbelievable thing. The first thing that came to mind was Feher's death. We are all in shock”, finished.
Both the Mértola Municipal Stadium and the BVM's INEM vehicle are equipped with defibrillators, with a fire department source confirming to LN that “until the doctor arrives, resuscitation maneuvers were performed”.
Gefrison Candé, He is from Bissau and was in Beja for six years, being a university student at the Instituto Politécnico de Beja playing football for Albernoense for pure pleasure. He started playing football on the Albernoa team, county Beja, in season 2018/19 and with the exception of the time of 2021/22, who played in Bairro da Conceição, Beja city club, always wore the red Albernoense shirt.
Gefrison Candé's body was transferred to the Beja Medicine-Legal Office where it will be autopsied.
