A couple of 25 year old, resident in Moreanes, municipality of Mértola, was in a serious condition following a hit by a car and was transported by helicopter to the Hospital de Faro.
The accident occurred on Saturday afternoon, having been given to the alert 14,15 hours, na Estrada Municipal (IN) 514 connecting the villages of Moreanes to Fernandes, at the intersection of Quintã and Corvos. When it was possible to determine, Ricardo Costa ran on the EM514, when two vehicles crossed and one reached the young man.
According to source information from the District Relief Operations Command (CDOS) Beja, when the alert was given “pointed to an unconscious injured person, but later, rescue workers arrived at the scene and realized that the victim's condition was serious ”, the INEM helicopter parked in Loulé was deployed.
The aircraft landed in a clearing near the accident site and after the young man was stabilized with the help of the VMER team from Hospital de Beja, transported the wounded to Faro Hospital. The young man's mother, that occurred at the accident site, she felt bad and after receiving assistance she was transported to the Basic Emergency Service (SUB) Castro Verde.
The victim is the son of António Costa, a self-taught artist, natural of Moreares, official of the Chamber of Mértola and who 2014 builds a Christmas crib under the motto “I make art from trash”, made from recyclable materials collected at waste disposal sites.
At the crash site were 12 operating the Mértola Fire, military personnel from the Mértola post and the Traffic Accident Investigation Nucleus (NICAV) from GNR and VMER from Beja, supported by five vehicles and the INEM helicopter from Loulé.
