Mértola: Three deaths and more 26 infected by covid-19 at Santa Casa's home.


Today the situation at the Santa Casa da Misericórdia home has worsened, there are to register three deaths and 26 new infected by covid-19.

The outbreak of covid-19 in the home of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Mértola (SCMM) provoked today 3 fatal victims among users of the institution who were hospitalized at José Joaquim Fernandes Hospital, in Beja. Test results have been known and there are 26 Novos infetados.

With these three deaths, there are already four users of that Residential Structure for Elderly People (ERPI) who passed away, after last day 30 of December, a woman 91 years have died in the same hospital.

But the bad news this Saturday did not end with the three deaths, since new ones have been known 26 infested in that ERPI, 10 users and 16 officials, after the battery of tests carried out on Thursday. These people will be transferred over the afternoon today, by the Mértola Fire Department, from home to the Zone of Concentration and Support to the Population (ZCAP), assembled by the Municipality of Mértola, at the Municipal Sports Pavilion.

According to the data provided by the vice president of CMM, "the 71 home users, six continue to test negatives, so there was a total of 65 positive cases, including the fatal victims whose losses we regret. Fortunately, they are also recovering ”, justified.

Mário Tomé noted “the great commitment” of all the institutions in the municipality to “alleviate this serious problem that hinders the age of the sick”, the mayor revealed that at ZCAP “we welcome a patient from a home in the municipality of Vidigueira”, concluded.

The direction of SCMM issued an explanation to the pollution and family members of users and employees where it begins by recognizing that the institution "is going through one of the most difficult moments in its history", adding that in order to give an immediate response support “it was necessary to suspend the activities of the responses in the area of ​​Childhood (Nursery and CATL)", finished.

“In addition to the profitability of human resources, it was necessary to transfer the kitchen team from the Home Support Service to the kitchen of the Children's Center, for the preparation of meals 150 users ”, calls on the ERPI management team to understand and trust everyone, ensuring that "we have done everything and we will continue to do so to resume all services as soon as possible so that everything returns to normal", justified.

The situation in Mértola's home, municipality classified as high risk, became "explosive" after the past day 18 December the first positive case of covid-19 was identified, following the trip of a man to the Hospital de Beja, where I would end up staying.

According to the latest data (Daily report 02-01-2021) the Local Health Unit of Baixo Alentejo (ULSBA), until 24 hours yesterday, 1 January, in the municipality of Mértola there are 98 active cases, a total of 194 that the Municipality has already registered, the joining 94 recovered and two deaths. These numbers are missing the new cases of infected and deceased known today.
