(Last hour) Odemira: River Club arsonist sentenced to 6 years and 6 months in prison.


Six and a half years in prison for the arsonist of Clube Fluvial Odemirense. It was also ordered to compensate the club and the municipality.

Markolf Ipfelkofer, the German citizen of 35 year old, author of the fire at the headquarters of the Clube Fluvial Odemirense (CFO), was sentenced on the afternoon of this Monday by a Panel of the Court of Beja, in legal height, to a sentence of six years and six months in prison, for the crimes of damage and theft, both qualified.

For the first of crimes, Markolf was sentenced to five years in prison and for the second he was sentenced to two years and six months in prison., continued in preventive detention awaiting the final decision, situation in which it is provided 11 October 2021.

The Panel of Judges also sentenced the German citizen to pay two civil damages to the Clube Fluvial Odemirense and the Odemira City Council. (Cmo). To the club the compensation for damages to boats and other property was fixed in 108.652,67 euros and the municipality for damages to the building that it owns, in 70.023,56 euros.

After serving the prison sentence, Markolf will be extradited to Germany, where he will be tried for thefts in different regions of that country, including the Volkswagen van, in which he was transported on the night of the fire, belonging to the “Universiat Hohenheim Fuhrparkâ€, in Stuttgart, since it is subject to a European Arrest Warrant issued by the German judicial authorities.

Remember that on the night of 9 October 2021, in order to camouflage the theft he had committed inside the CFO's headquarters, using a bottle of gel firelighter, Markolf Ipfelkofer set fire to two boats which led to the destruction of all the stuffing and the building, having then put to flight, but a few hours later he was detained by inspectors from the PJ of Portimão, in Vila do Bispo, Algarve town to which he had fled.
