Health: New Secretary of State is from Serpa.


Ricardo Mestre will be the next Secretary of State for Health. Natural Serpa, has been deputy director-general of the Directorate-General for Health since June this year, appointed by the then Minister Marta Temido.

Born 30 January 1978, has 44 years has a degree in Economics from the Higher Institute of Economics and Management of the University of Lisbon in 2001, is a specialist in hospital administration and a postgraduate in health services administration.

The new secretary of state is the nephew of Fernando Mestre, better known as Fernando “Baletas”, voice and viola of the “Os Alentejanos” Group. He was a football player having represented as a senior F.C.Serpa (97/98 and 99 and 03/04), C.A.Aldenovense (99/00), C.Sportivo de Beja (01/02 and 02/03), Moura A.C. (03/04) and S.C.Mineiro Aljustrelense (04/05 and 05/06), club where he ended his career.

The President of the Republic will swear in three new Secretaries of State proposed by the Prime Minister, two of which at the Ministry of Health. Ricardo Mestre will be the next Secretary of State for Health and Margarida Tavares was nominated for Secretary of State for Health Promotion.

According to a note on the presidency's page, It can be read that “the President of the Republic accepted the Prime Minister’s proposal to appoint three new Secretaries of State, whom he will confer possession on Friday, by 19h30, in BelĂ©m Palace”.

Full name Ricardo Jorge Almeida PerdigĂŁo Seleiro Mestre joins the team of the new Minister of Health, Manuel Pizarro, replacing the Secretary of State for Health, Lacerda Sales.
