Luís Amado passed away, of 55 year old, former president of the Vila de Frades Parish Council, county Vidigueira, founder of the agency “Janelas do Turismo”, the man in 2002 confronted the Government of Pedro Passos Coelho against the infamous “Relvas Law” for the merger of parishes.
Amado's death was announced on the agency's website, noting that he died at the CUF Hospital, in Lisbon, victim of septicemia after surgery.
Luís Amado was executive secretary of the Municipality of Vidigueira for four years and 12 years president of the Parish Council of Vila de Frades. In 2017 presented a candidacy for the presidency of the Municipality of Vidigueirense, which he would later withdraw, having founded in his native land, Vila de Frades, the tourist company and travel promoter, which had as its main objective the promotion of talha wine, one of the city's ex-libris.
A man knowledgeable about the laws and an experienced mayor in local politics, became a prominent figure in municipal politics when he confronted Paulo Júlio, the then Secretary of State of the Passos Coelho Government, disagreeing with the merger of parishes and presented a solution that the rulers did not count on.
The mayor “put the governor up against the wall” by guaranteeing that “if the law of 3 kilometers, for the merger of parishes, is approved, I move the headquarters of the parish council to the Ruins of São Cucufate, which are located 4 kilometers. I skirt the law and avoid the merger”, threatened.
This position by Luís Amado was divisive and the Government backed down and removed the “three kilometers from the merger” paragraph from the law..
