Vidigueira: Exhibition “The lynx in the Peninsula – connecting territories and consolidating populations”.


The exhibition “The Lynx on the Peninsula – Connecting Territories and Consolidate Populations”, promoted by CIMBAL – Baixo do Alentejo Intermunicipal Community, within the scope of the LIFE LYNXCONNECT project, is open to the public at the Municipal Library of Vidigueira from tomorrow until 3 June, with the support of the City Council.

The objective of the exhibition is to present to Portuguese society the work carried out, ongoing and planned for the future, within the scope of the conservation of the Iberian Lynx. The proximity aspect of this initiative will take place in 13 municipalities that are members of CIMBAL, in addition to three municipalities in the Algarve (Alcoutim, Tavira and Silves) and still in Lisbon.

The exhibition developed by CIMBAL, partner of the LIFE LYNXCONNECT project, with the technical and scientific support of ICNF – Institute for Nature Conservation and Forestry, I.P., will feature an inaugural session the next day 23 May, 11.00am.

Associated with the exhibition, two moments of awareness and communication will be promoted about the importance of reintroducing the Iberian lynx with stories and tales about the species that will be shared by storyteller Jorge Serafim on the day 23 May, at 14:30, for the local community, at the Vidigueira Municipal Library.

The LIFE LYNXCONNECT project, its central objective is to increase the Iberian lynx population and reinforce connectivity between the subpopulations of Portugal and Spain. This project, that adds 22 Iberian partners, its coordinating beneficiary is the Consejería de Agricultura, Cattle raising, Fisheries and Sustainable Development of the Junta de Andaluzia, and on the part of Portugal, beyond CIMBAL, Infraestruturas de Portugal participates as partners, I.P. and the ICNF – Institute for Nature Conservation and Forestry, I.P..
