A youngster, of 18 year old, resident in Vidigueira and preventively detained at the Leiria Prison since 10 July 2023, was sentenced, in legal height, a 6 years in prison for committing four crimes, one of which was domestic violence perpetrated against his then girlfriend.
The defendant must pay 4.561,80 euros in compensation to three victims, they are the girlfriend.
The individual was also sentenced to the additional penalty of prohibition of contacts with removal from residence/workplace, of the victim of domestic violence, for a period of five years, with remote control, when released and still attending domestic violence prevention programs.
A Panel of Judges from the Court of Beja sentenced the defendant on Friday to partial sentences of 3 years and 6 months for a crime of domestic violence, 2 years and 6 months for each of two crimes of offense to physical integrity and 4 months for a simple offense against physical integrity, in total 8 years and 10 months in prison.
From the legal height of 6 years of imprisonment applied, the individual can benefit from a one-year pardon, if you pay compensation for 4.561,80 euros, within 90 days after the final judgment of the ruling.
Since the beginning of 2023, the defendant started dating the victim, having shared residence between March and July last year as spouses, During this period, the individual mistreated the woman, having assaulted her several times, with punches and kicks, all caused by jealousy. Even after the relationship ended, the individual did not accept this fact, having even entered the victim's workplace, attacking her in front of customers.
In addition to the facts perpetrated against his girlfriend, the defendant was also convicted of attacking two individuals on public roads, for futile reasons, generated by their violent behavior.
During the trial, the individual remained silent, In the ruling, the Panel of Judges justified the conviction with the fact that the defendant did not reveal any feeling of regret or compassion towards the suffering he inflicted on his victims”, remembering that he already has a criminal record, for the same type of crimes and was the target of educational protective proceedings.
