The rehabilitation and re-functionalization project for the building of the future Casa das Artes, in Vila Verde Ficalho, has already been approved by the Serpa, coming soon, will start.
With the aim of rehabilitating a building that is currently degraded, this intervention proposes “the maintenance of the current insertion in the urban fabric, avoiding ruptures in the traditional image, maintaining the dimensions of the spans, the type of eaves and the existing colors in the building”. Yet, the project provides for the organization of existing spaces, making them more functional and creating multiple rooms, in order to adapt the building to a new museum space.
On the ground floor will be several exhibition spaces, dedicated to the works of local artists, and the second floor will be destined to the activities of associations or local choir groups, supported by the Parish Council.
The rehabilitation will last for four months and includes preparatory work, demolition of buildings on the patio and interior walls of the building, the placement of new exterior and interior coatings, floors, bathroom remodeling, kitchen equipment, water and electricity network, lighting, among others, and will have an estimated cost of approx. 140 thousand euros.
This intervention is included in a broader application, entitled “Cultural Heritage in Network”, which provides for six interventions to be carried out in different locations in the municipality of Serpa, and framed in the “Serpa Open Museum” strategic plan, namely the Casa da Memória and the Taverna dos Camponeses de Pias, Pias; the House of Resistance, Vale de Vargo; the Olive Oil Lagar and Casão do Cante, in Vila Nova de S.. Bento.
These interventions are part of the conservation, protection, promotion and development of the county's cultural heritage, and represent an opportunity for the Municipality to continue the development of projects articulated by the “Serpa Open Museum” concept..
