VINIPAX opens its doors in Beja on the day 5 October, Thursday, by 16 hours and continues throughout the weekend until the day 8 October, Sunday, to 20 hours.
VINIPAX is a fair that showcases the wine culture of Southern Portugal, but also from other regions and countries. In the South, the Mediterranean influence is more noticeable, with similarities in terms of castes and cultural methods, combined with modern technology, compete for the production of mature wines, expressive and with a wide tasting spectrum, that mark the identity of Wines from the South of Portugal.
In this 14th edition, of the biggest Wine event in the South of Portugal, will be present around 4 dozens of producers, distributed across various regions. In addition to these producers, the Beira Interior Regional Wine Commission will also be present., as a guest region, presenting your wines, the Association of Portuguese Wine Municipalities, the Wine Brotherhood of Talha de Cabeção, which will present the carved wines of this region, a Vitifrades, which will promote carved wine and the 25th edition of Vitifrades, which will take place in Vila de Frades between 8 and 10 December 2023, the municipality of Vidigueira, which will present the wines of its municipality, the municipality of Mértola that brings new and surprising wines from this municipality, the municipality of Oeiras which presents Carcavelos Wines and the municipality of Ourique which will provide tastings of Alentejo pork ham with the wines present at the fair. In this edition we will also be able to get to know the Wines of Moldova, a country with a long wine tradition, but still unknown to the general public.
The Mayor of Beja, Paul Arsenio, highlights the fact that “we count on 39 Exhibitors, which represent approximately 60 brands and more 300 wine references. We will place particular emphasis on Beja wines and Talha Winesâ€, which, yet, “fail to convey a broader dimension of the excellent wine offerings from all regions of the country, as is the case with Beira Interior Wines, VINIPAX guest region 2023. Wine is one of the central elements of the local economy, factor that boosts tourism and is also one of the excellent ambassadors of the municipality of Beja and the region in Portugal and abroadâ€.
This year, VINIPAX presents a Wine Store, with extended opening hours, which will allow the purchase of wines represented at this event.
On the VINIPAX schedule 2023, in addition to the usual evidence commented by the producers present, a close connection between wines and gastronomy will be promoted, by carrying out harmonization tests, in the SUL À MESA space, where some of the excellent chefs and restaurants from the Beja region and Portugal will be present.
On 5 October, Thursday, We highlight at 3pm – the preparation of Bacalhau D’oro and black pork Abanicos with Moroccan spices, yellow rice from Alter do Chão with beans and red onion pickles by chef Filipe Ramalho (Royal Pavilion); at 5:30 pm, wine critic Manuel Baiôa will give a commented tasting on the Wines of Beira Interior.
On 6 October, Friday, the program starts at 4:45 pm with Chef Pedro Rolim (Alvito Professional School), which will teach you how to prepare a fried wild rabbit and dry Lúcios Açorda; at 6:00 pm – at the Stand of the Municipality of Ourique there will be a pairing test between Talha Wines (Vititrades) with Alentejano PGI Pork Ham; at 6:40 pm – Chef LuÃs Rocha (Herdade dos Grous) will prepare a braised Pheasant with sauce 23 barrels.
On 7 October, Saturday, We highlight at 11:30 am the preparation of a Partridge Açorda with grain by Chef António Nobre (Degust’AR Lisboa Restaurant & Bistro); at 3pm Chef João Engana (Abaladiça Restaurant) will prepare an Alentejana Bacalhau paired with Discordia Reserva wine – Herdade Vale d’Évora; at 5:30 pm Chef Henrique Sá Pessoa (Alma Restaurant) will prepare an Alentejo dogfish and prey soup with crumbs and greens; to 19 hours there will be a tasting dedicated to Beja Wines chosen and commented by winemaker AnÃbal Coutinho.
In this day, Vinipax's organization also includes a press trip sponsored by the Alentejo Regional Tourism Promotion Agency, which brings to the territory 11 journalists from 7 international media related to the world of wine and wine tourism, consolidating the commitment to the internationalization of the event, of wine producers and wine tourism in the Alentejo region.
On the last day of Vinipax, not sunday, day 8 October, activities start at 11:30 am with Cakery by Sofia Coutinho, which presents recipes for the family: Lemon Pancakes & Blueberry and Banana Cookies & Oat; at 3pm chef Saudade Campião (restaurant in Pipa) will prepare a “Tomato soup with bacon and fried sausageâ€; at 4:30 pm Chef João Mourato (Quinta do Quetzal) will prepare Lagostim do rio in Bulhão Pato, low temperature egg yolk and bacon paia and creamy mushroom rice and roast Alentejo pork neck, paired with wines from Quinta do Quetzal commented by Manuel Baiôa; to 18 oenologist AnÃbal Coutinho will conduct a tasting on “Talha Wineâ€.
VINIPAX thus reconsolidates itself in the calendar of national reference wine shows, this time within the set of integrated events, called SOUTH HERITAGE. Continuing the commitment to international projection, we will count on the presence of several journalists from specialty magazines, coming not only from Portugal, as well as from different parts of the world. The city of Beja, as organizing entity, will continue to assert Beja as a central place for the most important agricultural crops, with the vineyard and wine being a reference.
VINIPAX is a tribute to the best of life and the Alentejo experience that will be shared by thousands of visitors, amateurs and professionals. Premia, also, the breaking of barriers between neighboring wine regions with which the largest wine exhibition event in the South of Portugal is built.
A Turismo do Alentejo, ERT also supports this initiative by participating in the Sul à Mesa program with the arrival of Chefs Henrique Sá Pessoa and Filipe Ramalho.
