It was the traditional game of 1 April, the news that the edition of the Volta a Portugal by Bicycle 2024 would start in Beja, on 24 July. Mentira joints, there are many truths in between.
In fact, do dia 31 October last year, a meeting was held between the Executive of Beja City Council and the Tour Organization with the aim of the 85th Tour of Portugal by Bicycle starting in the “Cidade Pax-Júlia”.
The financial proposal to host the “Portuguesa” match was not accepted and only afterwards did the Organization decide on the city that will host the match., but whose name is not yet possible to reveal.
It is also true that the presentation of the teams would be on the day 23 in Park City, and broadcast on the event's official television, the possibility of a short plane trip departing and arriving at the Beja Civil Terminal was discussed, with the teams then taking off to the presentation location.
The exam secretariat, would take place in the days 23 and 24 July, with a large part of the organization, teams and sponsors arrived in Beja on the day 21, which would cause hotel and restaurant occupancy to dry up.
If there was an agreement between the Municipality and the Organization, the city of Beja would be the thirty-first location to receive the beginning of “Portuguesa”, and the second from Alentejo, since the first time occurred in Évora in the distant year of 1981.
