Beja: In 2019 if the signal- 350 years of Mariana Alcoforado Letters.


Celebrates in Beja 2019 the 350 years of the first edition of the "Portuguese Letters" Soror Mariana Alcoforado. The "Festival B" will be dedicated to Mariana Alcoforado and the "Portuguese Letters": one of the most beautiful love stories.

Although the originals of the letters have not reached our days, We know of its existence for the first edition of the same, dated 4 January 1669, on France, por Claude Barbin, with the title "Letters Portuguese Translated by François". In the same year it was followed by another issue, the German city of Cologne, por Peter Hammer.

Editions succeeded a little throughout Europe and, already in 1923, Ferreira according to Godfrey, scholar and collector of works on the cards, there 130 editions in several languages: French, English, italiano, German, Spanish, Danish, Dutch and Portuguese.

In 2019, celebrate the 350 years of the first edition of "Portuguese Letters".

The initiatives begin on 4 January with the inauguration of the permanent exhibition 100 STEPS the next day 4 January, at 19:00, of Beja Regional Museum, with support doArquivo District of Beja. This exhibition is sponsored by Municipality of Beja, a CIMB and Beja Regional Museum, is part of the programming Festival B – Beja, City of Mariana Alcoforado and will be open to the public until 31 December 2019.
